Overview of teaching in London

Teaching is a rewarding career to pursue, and London is a particularly great city to be a teacher. Here’s a few key things to know about the different areas where you can find teaching jobs in London.

Where do you want to teach?

There are 32 boroughs in London to choose from, each with their own distinct character. Many people choose to consider the city as four areas: east, west, north and south.

North London

Educational standards in this area are high, and there are many posts for teachers with experience. North London has more primary schools than secondary schools.

East London

This area includes rich cultural history and notable boroughs such as Tower Hamlets, Barking and Hackney. There are also ample teaching jobs for determined teachers, thanks to a huge number of primary and secondary schools.

South London

There are fewer schools in South London than the other areas, but there are opportunities for secondary school teachers in districts such as Lewisham, and the area itself is regarded for its scenery and slower pace of life.

West London

A great location for primary school teachers, there are also plenty of secondary schools to choose from in West London. This part of the city is also noted for its great transport links, so you can get around with ease.
